Alcohol consumption poses a grave threat to Indians as it is the world’s youngest nation with 600 million people less than 30 years of age. Calling alcohol consumption is the gravest public health issue in India at Present.A lot is contributed by the Bollywood films and few liquor advertisements whose brand ambassador are some of the top models and actors. Actors drinking on screen will encourage youngsters to take up the habit scenes depicting alcohol consumption and further trigger the alcoholics. Shah Rukh Khan’s rendition of a drunken junior artist delivering the dialogs “picture abhi baaki hei dost” are very motivating for the youngsters in a derogatory sense and movies at present have more often started smoking and boozing as a glamor tool and also as a cheap humor. During 70′s and 80′s films villains were mostly shown boozing and smoking. These days heroes are consuming alcohol and that too in a glamorized manner and these heroes are considered icons by some section of the society and defiantly plays a negative role on not so educated ones. The average age of alcohol consumption in India has fallen by nearly 9 years over the past decade. Presently an average Indian take up drinking at the age of 19 compared to 28 in the 1990′s. At this rate in a span of 5 to 7 years an average Indians will start consuming at the age of 15.
LET US SEE WHAT YOUNG INDIAN HAS TO SAY REGARDING BOOZING
“It makes me feel good. And besides, my parents drink with their friends.”This is what we are suppose to do on weekends After all you live ones” We are living in a double standard society as we are suppose to vote by the time we are 18 but why can’t I buy and drink freely? ”
The per capita consumption is 4 liter per adult per year. As we all know that women are not lacking behind in any sphere of life that is very true regarding the consumption of alcohol as well. In every 6 men 1 woman drinks alcohol in India, and very soon the figure in this regard will be also shooting. Almost 15% of the road accidents taking place at night in India is due to drunken driving.
So in short we can say that “Alcohol is the mother of all public health problems in India. Alcohol users are increasing rapidly and number of addicts requiring help is pilling up and unfortunately this is further giving way to other social abuses like Rapes, domestic quarrels, health problems and violence in general.

It’s high time we should all address this social problem.
