Al Gore with Rajendra Pachauri for the Nobel Peace Prize

The former US Vice Prez Al Gore has got the Nobel Peace Prize and it is to be co shared with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( possibly for his film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ ). There was reasonably very tough competition with Canadian Inuit Sheila Watt-Cloutier among other 181 nominees. Wow what a day for these high profile people. I would feel even happier if these kind of prizes were to see more of the Third World countries instead of only the US and European. NO, I’m not saying to have a quota system but it’s got more to do with realism in real life which is sometimes lacking. I feel maybe an Oscar would have been the order of the day here. just kidding!
If I were to only award the top honchos of my firm or organisation, how will the people below them work and react. The goodies need to be divided well so that the people from Asia and Africa can also have some thing bright to see in their roads ahead. By saying so, I don’t really want to take away the thunder from the people who have got Nobel’s but I just want to reiterate the fact that in the US, the number of immigrants who are doing an excellent job now for nearly four decades should get reasonable recognition for their work. Another strong contestant in my opinion definitely was Irena Sendler of Poland, who saved 2,500 Jewish children during World War II and of course our Indian Rajendra Pachauri who as chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change would also be the beneficiary. Irena Sendler for everyone’s info’ saved nearly 2,500 Jewish children from the Nazis, saving children out of the Warsaw Ghetto in baskets and ambulances. They had her tortured but she didn’t squeak and maintained her stand. After the war, she expressed emotions that reflected her strong will for doing less than what she wanted to do more. The prize in my view, which I can say for sure is also part of the Public view, should reflect the work encompassing a global sphere and not an individual’s area of influence like Irena.
Controversies are not new to the award of the Nobel Prizes and I’m sure they will not end ever however as long as the committee members feel that justice has been done and no untoward favouritism has been shown without any malice to humanity, I guess Alfred Nobel would rest in Peace.
