This is a film sequel of “Da Vinci Code” directed again by Ron Howard and the screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, based on the homonymous book “Angels and Demons” which became also known with the title “Illuminati written by Dan Brown.  The film is a coproduction of Sony and Columbia Pictures. Tom Hanks will once again play the role of Professor Robert Langdon, while the leading female role is held by the Israeli Ayelet Zurer, who is the beautiful and enigmatic Italian scientist Vittoria Vetra.
Ewan McGregor, Stellan Skarsgaard and Armin Mueller-Stah are also basic film characters. Worth mentioning is the fact that the film was expected to be played in cinemas early this year, but the screenwriters’ strike in 2007 delayed Goldsman’s work. As in “The Da Vinci Code”, the Vatican has banned any access to the premises shooting in this movie and that is the reason why the entire production built a replica of Piazza San Pietro, at the scale of normal. Of course the attitude the Vatican showed was expected, since the film is not very different from the “Da Vinci Code.”
The case concerns the eternal struggle between religion and science and involves hunting a psychopathic killer in the Vatican and the notorious Illuminati. Professor Robert Langdon, this time is trying to analyze a mysterious symbol that was engraved in the chest of a murdered CERN (European Organization Of Nuclear Research) scientist and prevent the destruction of the Vatican city.
The mysterious symbol along with a series of other symbols and clues gathered by the professor lead to the conclusion that the organization of the Illuminati had stolen an energy stone created by CERN (European Organization Of Nuclear Research) using atom collision. The stone’s regenerated power is about to unleash a huge explosion which will destroy the entire Vatican city during the Congress for the Cardinal electing a new Pope.
That seems to be an Illuminati threat to the Catholic Church. For this reason, the professor goes directly to Rome, where he meets the scientist Vittoria Vetra, to help save the Vatican.
Within the framework of cooperation with the scientist professor Robert Langdon risks his life goes through crypts, catacombs, ramshackle cathedral and finds the heart of the most well hidden safe in the world among 400 year old symbols through intrigue and murderous conspiracies. But Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca (McGregor), also known as Janus, the closest friend of the late Pope, who initially helps Langdon and that in the investigation will reveal himself well hidden under his mask. The movie is interesting as a Da Vinchi Code sequel much better than Da Vinchi Code full of action and usolved puzzles. Special effects also upraise the movie’s action and keep the audience surprised and stunned.
