Anoop Desai, the Indian-American youth of Gujarati origin who is aspiring to be the next American Idol, crossed various hurdles, and made it to the top 10. who was on the brink of elimination from the popular reality show American Idol last week, is back with a bang, thanks to his soulful and stirring performance on the Grand Ole Opry-themed show, that literally left the judges spell bound.”Anoop has just gone, has gone from zero to hero,” remarked judge Simon Cowell, who last week said he regretted putting college student into the top 13. 22-year-old Desai, fondly nicknamed ‘Anoop Dogg’, who was in serious trouble two weeks ago with low votes in the  competition, His mind blowing performance made Anoop ‘safe.’ Following the voting which saw over 31 million choosing their favourites, Anoop roared back as a favourite. He is among the 10 contestants, following the elimination of one.

 This is a crucial stage in the competition, and as every contestant will go on with the national tour, never mind when the candidate is eliminated in the competition. Two years ago, Sanjaya Malakar, the first person of Indian origin too got an opportunity to go on the tour. Following the voting which saw over 31 million choosing their favourites, Desai roared back as a favourite.  Plus, for all his success on-stage, he equals it off-stage as well. Put simply, Anoop has become a phenomenon. Anoop Dogg (or ‘Noop Dogg) is the name he’s now known by, And just check out his website, which has roughly a dozen different Anoop-inspired t-shirts for sale! Anoop Desai had asked his cousin Mauli Desai if she wanted  a Gujarati or an Hindi song. He speaks fluent Gujarati but not much of Hindi but he is ready to learn and brush up his Hindi language  as required. Anoop is the only child of his proud parents, his father is Manoj Desai who graduated from IIT-Kanpur and migrated to America in the year 1977. Anoop’s mother Nalini Desai, who earned her doctorate in South Africa also studied in Gujarat.  The family live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Currently he is in the list of the fan’s favorite and is the only second Indian American singer to advance  into American Idol’s Top 12.
 
Great going Anoop, keep the good work honey, India and Indians will be always  proud of you. And even if he doesn’t win it all, he’s got a contingency plan. Anoop’s currently a graduate student in folklore at the University of North Carolina.
