I first made this smoothie when I was having one of those days where I just couldn’t keep my eyes open. This drink immediately woke me up! Since then it’s been my go to wake me up smoothie.
1 cup of pineapple (fresh or frozen)
1 cup of Cilantro
Juice from ½ Lime
1 cup of water
A pinch of Cayenne Pepper
Add combine ingredients into a high powered blender and process until smooth
The reason this smoothie is so awakening is thanks to the refreshing and strong flavors of pineapple, lime, and cayenne pepper.
Pineapple: This fruit is the perfect ingredient to help cover up the bitterness of the greens without being too sweet. Pineapples have the added health benefit of an enzyme called Bromaline which aids in digestion and acts as an anti-inflammatory. They also happen to be high in Vitamin C as well, giving you a boost to your immune system and your energy!
Lime: These guys are not only super refreshing, but super alkalizing as well. When your body is alkalized you have more energy and feel more awake. Limes are also very high in vitamin C which will support the immune system. And another reason to use limes is that they contain a compound called limonnoid which is actually shown to kill cancer cells!
Cayenne Pepper: Just a pinch of Cayenne Pepper gives you tons of benefits. Cayenne Pepper is great for waking you up because it works on the circulatory system and really gets the blood flowing. It supports every aspect of digestion, and helps support the bodies detox system. Cayenne pepper is also an anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and has anti-bacterial properties. Yup it’s pretty amazing stuff.
Cilantro: This herb blends well with the tropical flavors and is always a good ingredient to add into smoothies, especially if you want to detox. This herb helps chelate (remove) heavy metals like mercury, aluminum, and lead from the body. It is also anti-bacterial and anti-viral. Cilantro has a high antioxidant content including the flavonoid Quercetin, which is a powerful antihistamine and anti-inflamatory.
Cucumber: This veggie happens to be one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat, and the most hydrating. A little cucumber is always good to wake you up and give you a burst of energy.
Avocado: There are so many benefits to avocado’s that I pretty much throw them into every smoothie. If you are looking for a pick me up avocado brings oxygen to the brain and helps improve cognitive function. Perfect if you are having a sleepy brain fog day.
