Jhanavi Kapoor, daughter of yesteryear’s Bollywood Actress Sridevi, would be soon making her debut in Telugu Cinema, and this marks her entry into film industry. It is said that Jhanavi Kapoor was asked for the lead female role opposite Nagarjuna”s younger son Akhil, who would also be making his debut as hero.
Kites,” the adventure Bollywood Movie from Mumbai-based Reliance Big Pictures, took in almost $1 million during the weekend to become the first Bollywood movie to open in the top 10 in the U.S. and Canada.
The film, introduced in 207 theaters, had sales of $958,673, researcher Hollywood.com Box-Office said yesterday in an e-mail. Billionaire Anil Ambani’s Reliance said in a statement that no other Indian film has opened in the top 10.
Reliance Big is expanding its U.S. presence. Last year, the company agreed to invest $325 million for an equity stake in Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios. “Kites” follows two immigrants, one from Mexico and the other from India, who go on the run to escape a vengeful Las Vegas casino owner. I suppose more then the script of the film it’d the hot hotter and hottest bodies of Barbara Mori and Hritihik is doing the real magic. The international version of kites is really bold and hot unlike the desi(Indian) version.
At least one other Indian-produced film had a bigger U.S. opening than “Kites.” “My Name is Khan” produced by Mumbai- based Dharma Productions and released by Fox Searchlight, took in $1.94 million in February. The film ranked 13th in a weekend lineup that included “Valentine’s Day,” “The Wolfman” and “Avatar,” according to researcher Box Office Mojo.
Review of Raajneeti
Raajneeti is film directed by a very well known director Prakash Jha. The film has drama, political action, ruthless ambition and most importantly, it plays on your emotions. The film shows that Raajneeti is a complex game that people indulge in to achieve power and how this greed envelopes them and transforms them into ruthless and conniving humans.
Cousins Veerendra Pratap Singh (Manoj Bajpayee) and Prithvi Pratap Singh (Arjun Rampal) are heirs of a powerful political party. But when Prithvi is appointed to take the lead, an angry Veerendra teams up with the backward class leader Sooraj (Ajay Devgan) to plot against Prithvi and evict him from the party.
Prithvi’s younger brother Samar (Ranbir Kapoor) who is studying abroad and has no political aspirations gets sucked into the political rivalry between the families. Under the mentoring of senior party and family member Brij Gopal (Nana Patekar), Samar takes charge of the conniving affairs of state to start their own political party, gather funds and get Prithvi contest against Veerendra. What unfolds next as the battle shifts ground to the elections forms the rest of the film.
Jha has done brilliantly with screenplay and dialogues. The ambience is perfect. Body language of each and every performer is ‘politically correct’. There is ambition, drive and a burning desire in each of the characters to be one up on the other. But in the sidelines is Brij Gopal (Nana Patekar) who is actually the decision maker in the warring family. He holds the remote control.
Performance wise, Each and every actor in this film has delivered his/her best performance. But the ones who stand out are Ranbir Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee. Ranbir Kapoor is improving film by film. Arjun is just superb. He delivers really a terrific and mind blowing performance. Manoj gives his career-best performance. He plays the evil part superbly. Ajay Devagan is brilliant. Katrina Kaif is perfect for her role and looks beautiful on screen as usual. Nana Patekar is excellent.
On the whole, Rajneeti is an important film in today’s times. An interesting portrayal of political ambitions and a truly admirable effort, this brilliant film is not to be missed. It will be liked by the elderly people too.
