Boston Legal was created by David E. Kelley. Kelley and Bill D’Elia are the executive producers. The series, which premiered October 3, 2004, is produced by David E. Kelley Productions in association with Twentieth Century Fox Television.
Led by an Emmy Award-winning cast, Boston Legal is a story of professional and personal stories of a group of brilliant but often emotionally challenged attorneys. Fast-paced and wildly comedic, the series confronts social and moral issues, while its characters continually stretch the boundaries of the law.
Back-to-back Emmy Award winners James Spader and William Shatner play Alan Shore and Denny Crane, unlikely kindred spirits among the brigade of high-priced litigators at Crane Poole & Schmidt. In addition, Shirley Schmidt (played by five-time Emmy winner Candice Bergen), a founding partner of the firm, continues to help bring order to the chaotic office. She keeps a vigilant eye on all, particularly on Denny Crane, with whom she shares a checkered past.
Office politics is very much the name of the game in this soap with Schmidt and senior partner Carl Sack (Emmy Award winner John Larroquette) in Boston. Added to the mix are Jerry “Hands” Espenson, Shore’s friend and fellow lawyer who suffers from Aspergers syndrome, and Clarence Bell (aka Clarice/Clevant/Oprah, portrayed by Gary Anthony Williams), who suffers from such an extreme case of social inadequacy and shyness that he can morph into a number of personalities at the drop of a hat. They continue to try cases while doing their best to fit in with the other members of the firm. Then there’s Katie Lloyd (Tara Summers), fresh out of law school and eager to learn as she becomes a young associate of the Boston offices; Lorraine Weller (Saffron Burrows), a sexy, sophisticated litigator who once had a passionate affair with Shore, the chemistry of which still lingers and distracts; and Whitney Rome (Taraji P. Henson), a premiere though unconventional litigator from the New York office who transfers herself to C.P.& S. Boston.
Boston Legal stars James Spader as Alan Shore, John Larroquette as Carl Sack, Christian Clemenson as Jerry Espenson, Gary Anthony Williams as Clarence/Clarice Bell, Tara Summers as Katie Lloyd, Saffron Burrows as Lorraine Weller, with Candice Bergen as Shirley Schmidt and William Shatner as Denny Crane.
Boston Legal was recently honored by The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with their Television Academy Honors. The Television Academy Honors is separate from the Primetime Emmy’s recognition of television excellence.
Additionally, the episode “Do Tell” won a GLAAD Media Award for Individual Episode in a series without a LGBT character. The GLAAD Media Awards honors excellence for issues or story lines that relate directly to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, or that contain characters who are clearly identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.
So the reruns are a must see for people who missed it out earlier like me.
