Brad Pitt’s girlfriend and Oscar winner Angelina Jolie have given birth recently to two kids, a boy and a girl, taking the number of kids the movie superstars have to six. The couple have named the new arrivals Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline. They already have a biological daughter, Shiloh, two, and three adopted children – Maddox, six, who was born in Cambodia, Vietnamese Pax, four, and Ethiopian Zahara, three.The twins were delivered by a cesarean section at the Lenval hospital on the glamorous Promenade des Anglais waterfront drive in Nice. The girl, named Vivienne Marcheline, weighed 2.27 kg while her brother, Knox Leon, weighed 2.28 kg.
Nice Matin, the hometown daily in the Riviera city in the south of France where Jolie gave birth, put the twins’ worth at more than $11 million. It first broke news of the birth that the couple have sold the rights for the first photo of their newly enlarged family to a U.S. publication, which it did not name, and that the proceeds would go to charity. The couple has been the subject of celebrity gossip fascination since they met on the set of their 2005 film “Mr and Mrs Smith” and later began a romantic relationship.
Whew, let’s start talking sense now because I feel that the arrival of two cute kids is the best thing to happen in anyone’s life but the kind of hype and media attention the event has garnered sure calls for some introspection in our lives. We will do anything for the first view of the kids let alone the paparazzi run after them and earn some livelihood. But I’m sure these celebrity kids who have been born would not know that they have already made enough money because of their parent’s star status, that a few countries could have their entire year’s maternity and childcare budgets put to shame. My hope is only that this money gets nicely utilised and put to good use by the star parents. Apart from the hype that is generated, I really don’t know if so much of media attention is warranted or not. It would be really nice if the star couple were to actually donate this money and utilise in some noble activities all around rather then gaining cheap publicity from their newly born children
