Coming to the Bollywood horror films can they scare the audiences? As a matter of fact not really. The horror genre hasn’t been doing too well in India because we are too busy aping the west. Indian cinema is perceived to have lagged behind Hollywood’s scary movies.
what ever said and done the fact remains, If you come across high glycerin drama, fluffy romances, cheap comedy and horror films which are more entertaining compared to the original comedy films then you are for sure watching a Bollywood spicy film. At the same time it will be unfair if we write off Indian horror films completely. The very fact that Indian stars are getting the stature of International stars and Indian actors have a major fan following all over the globe proves the fact that our films are admired all over the world. To name a few actors who are doing extremely well on the international front are Amitabh Bacchan, Aishwariya rai, Sharukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and many more. Bollywoods film are also getting nominated for Oscars proves very well that our films are doing extremely well all over the globe.
Indian horror films are not great hits like the rest, I think the answer is simple as India produced 50 love stories and 1 horror film so this could be a reason for Indian Horror films not doing to well. Some of the Indian horrors are “Bhoot” , Raat” , Darna Mana Hai, Phoonk, RaaZ, 1920 and so on. The top 5 Hollywood horror films are The Exorcist, The Omen, The Ring, The Shining and Psycho.
As a matter of fact, Indian Film makers have given audiences a dose of horror, and audiences have liked it. At the same time Indian Cinema has enough to explore when it comes to horror films. We have to customize it, add Indian element into it, and at the same time make it more realistic. It’s high time the horror films flicks should give the audience something to get scared of otherwise they will miss the excitement and will not get value for their money. In order to make horror flicks hit these movies need a high degree of technical expertise to evoke fear, If this is not done well we will end up making C- grade films.
Coming to the Psychologist angle ” The thrill of fear is meant to make people challenge their fear. When the audience watches a common person performing such activity, They generally put them self in their shoes and feel an adrenaline rush. ” Horror is an exploration of the dark side of the fantasy which excites people which they miss in their day to day routine.” ” The thrill of fear make us feel achievers when we go through it or when others narrate us as they go through it.”
Now the time has come when India will soon be producing the best of the horror flicks in the entire world and will beat Hollywood horrors. Such films will scare audiences out of their wits.
