Anything that strikes the emotional chord is an instant hit in our country. The reason for this is that we Indians are high on the emotional quotient and every Indian (even the most practical one) has an emotional soul hidden somewhere inside. The success of reality shows in India can be attributed to a great extent to this weakness of ours. Apart from this, the relief that these shows provide is a break from the regular  saas-bahu soaps, which very currently was  dominating the Indian television. Do people prefer a reality show to a prolonged television drama? Yes! The times are a-changing and the buzzword today is reality shows. These shows are all about formats and television programme producers see a huge opportunity in India for them. With the unprecedented success of programmes like Kaun Banega Crorepati on Star Plus and Indian Idol on Sony, it has been proven that formats are a huge success in India.  KBC and Indian Idol have made history in terms of people’s participation and have been great revenue generators as well. The best part of a reality show is that it guarantees success and there are valuable lessons to be learnt about viewer’s tastes and preferences. The reality shows makes sure that the dreams come true for the participants. Fabulous formats But the fact is there is a lot of drama in non-drama formats, which leads to the programme’s success,” ”Reality shows see the dreams of millions of Indians come true. They relate to the characters who appear on the shows, and this makes the shows more meaningful than any tearjerker. These shows give an instant recognition to the contestants. A chance to showcase their talent on such a big platform and in front of such esteemed judges is something for which any struggler can die. Reality television can provide them with this lifetime opportunity. The rest, of course, depends on their talent. And yes, formats work wonders. The latest trend in these reality shows are the  promotion of the upcoming new films by the Bollywood stars and actors. These reality shows are great platforms for promotion of new films. As a matter of fact, most of the reality shows are dance sensations, singing competitions, comedies shows and quiz shows.  I do watch most of  the reality shows but my favorite show has been a daring reality show  ”The  Fear Factor” which was hosted by the most out standing actor in Bollywood none other then Akshay Kumar. Apart from the common men such reality shows  also gives a carrier options to all kinds of actors, politicians, singers, young children and people who wants to prove their worth and were humilated by the society for various reasons.(one being Dancing Queen).
