Indian channels are loaded and flooded with unlimited daily soaps and at the same time they are also flooded with small and big TV stars. Tons and tons of serials are madein the entertainment industry every year. Family drama serials can be seen in all the channels to suit the Indian tastes and sentiments and at the same time the audience develop liking for a certain character and also for that particular actor who is playing the role of that character. Surprisingly the serials are aired for years and years as they become favorites among the audience and fetch high TRPs for the channels.
But it becomes difficult sometimes for the actors to continue for a longer period of duration due to various reasons like creative stagnation, differences with the producers, offers for films, starry tantrums, get pricey , pay hikes and some times personal circumstances. So the actor is given a clear chit and is very grace fully replaced by another one, who generally has some resemblance to the previous one or the resemblance is created through make up, hair style and by acting skills.
No one complains if the ‘replaced’ actors prove themselves and rake in the TRPs otherwise their is always a possibility of the original one to give a re entry ticket.
Mostly Indian story lines are very imaginative and friction based, a lot depends on the creative minds of the audience as well. At the same time emotional, drama, tragedy and romance in the right quantity is appreciated by the channels for the serial to fetch higher TRPs and when a producer decides to replace an actor it is so very easy to either kill the actor, murder or genuinely get lost in a river or a mela (festival) these days, even in malls and multiplexes. Later on, they are supposed to be given a plastic surgery which surprisingly makes them taller, shorter or even body volume is reduced to half the size and vice versa. ( I am sure you guys had no clue about the medical advancement of Indian plastic surgery which does not only change features but at the same time also adjusts weight, height, change in voice and much more), all courtesy Indian TV serials.
Now coming to the facts, it all began when the soap czarina Ekta Kapoor replaced her main lead actor Mihir Virani in a very popular serial kyuki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi essayed by Amar Upadhaya back in 2001. He wanted to quit the serial as he was suppose to act in a character who was almost double of his age and at the same time he had some offers from Bollywood films. He was replaced by Indra Kumar and Indra kumar was further replaced by Ronit Bose Roy who made the character iconic. Some times the replacements have a tough time due to the demands by the audience as they have to walk in somebody’s else’s shoes and some times these things work wonders.
Some of the popular Indian serials in leading channels like Star Plus, Zee Tv, Sony Net work and various other channels where a lot of cut and paste stars are present are kyuki saas bhi kabhi bahu thi, Zaara pyar ki saugat, Dil mil gaye. Television hunk Iqbal Khan is replaced by Nikhil Arya in a very popular serial which is based on Indian Air Force choona hai Aasmaan. Similarly few other serials where stars were replaced are Ghar ki Lakshmi Betiyan , Anu ki ho gayi Wah Bhai Wah , kasam se again a very popular serial in India in which Gurdeep Kohli who replaced Prachi Desai and therefore the list is simply endless friends.

Again a very popular serial in Sahara channel Woh rehene wali mehelon ki in which the leading role is performed by Reena Kapoor as Rani in the serial who is likely to quit (only rumors friends) who also incidentally happens to be my school bum chum and came down to meet me in Mumbai with her brand new and lovely husband. The most amazing fact about her is that after all the fame and popularity she has gained in the glamor world, she is the same human being with a golden heart and still so happy-go-lucky variety. Reena Kapoor was also the face of the Sahara Channel and was proudly honored for this title in the year 2007 in New York.
Indian TV serials are like the ancient trees getting stronger day by day. the better the TRPs the healthier is the serial.
