Katrina Kaif replaces Aishwarya Rai as Barbie doll

Friends, every thing and any thing is possible in the  world of glamour and Bollywood is no exception to this rule. Very recently Bollywood beauty and the very talented Aishwarya Rai was to be immortalised as a Barbie. As a matter of  fact, I had written about her in my earlier article. Over night another Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif has replaced Aishwarya. Reasons behind the change over are not very clear and nor are they very convincing. Aishwarya has declined the offer due to her professional engagements. However, the actress opted out due to her prior commitments as she did not want to cause inconvenience to the film-makers she was working with by taking time out for the event. The real reason to me seems to be the age factor though, since Aishwarya is 35 and Katrina is just 24 and is also an international figure. Undoubtedly, Katrina as a Barbie will have a longer shelf  life compared to Aishwarya Rai. Katrina is not only young but possesses various qualities of extreme attraction. She is the most wanted Indian celebrity and is searched most on the google, has a golden heart and loves to work for under privileged members of the society. Last, but not the least she is very humble in her approach and  shows no attitudes, tantrums, and is never linked for ego clashes with her colleagues. No wonder she is a director’s delight.
Finally then, Katrina walked the ramp as a Barbie at Lakme Fashion Week last week. The country’s premier fashion event, Lakme Fashion Week was being held from March 27 to 31, 2009. Designers had put together a special show to showcase 50 years of the Barbie doll. Indian designers competed in a contest to dress Barbie, with the winning designs being showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week. Barbie, the iconic doll has helped young girls pass countless hours in a make-believe world that mirrors real life and glamour. Throughout her life, Barbie’s hair and fashions have reflected real life haute couture and fashion trends. Katrina will be the Indian celebrity on whose likeness a Barbie doll will be created by Mattel Toys India Pvt Ltd.
Katrina said she would always cherish the memory of walking the ramp as a Barbie. “It will always be very special for me because a doll is something which is archived for ever,â€. The diva is delighted to have walked the runway as the show stopper dedicated to Barbie. The show, had several Indian designers showcasing Barbie-inspired outfits. Katrina wore the dress created by the winning designer.There could not have been a better opening of the Fall/Winter 2009 Lakme Fashion Week than the spectacular “Barbie All Doll’d Up†show that rocked the ramp. ‘Dress the Barbie’ contest attracted 75 entries from top designers in the country from which the 20 short listed creations were showcased on the ramp at the dazzling show. It was the winning dress by Nishka Lulla that Katrina modeled as the show stopper of the day.The Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Mumbai with the extra long ramp was dressed in hundreds of metres of the characteristic Barbie pink silk with the famed Barbie logo all around. The venue almost resembled Barbie’s pretty house and it was a place where a girl of any age would have loved to be.
