Kylie Minogue jets into Mumbai next month to record a song to AR Rahman’s music forBlue, a movie by debutant director Anthony D’ Souza. Besides Kylie, other westren stars such as Snoop Dogg, Tata Young have also sung for B’wood films in the past.

Reports from Australian media and the Indian newspaper DNA said she has agreed a fee of nearly $1million (£675,000) to sing one song for the soundtrack of the highly-anticipated film. The fee, however, is small change for Minogue, who last month earned $5 million for performing at the opening of Atlantis hotel in Dubai. Kylie’s latest album has just won her a fifth Grammy nomination.

Kylie was not Rahman’s first choice with reports that singer Madonna too had been asked. The pop diva apparently declined on account of her bitter divorce. Another contender, R&B star Rihanna, asked for too much money. Production house Ashtavinayak Cinevision finally settled for Minogue. With a budget of $28 million, this may well be Bollywood’s most expensive film. The film boasts a star cast — Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Zayed Khan, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif.

Inspired by Hollywood underwater thrillers like The Deep and Jaws, the movie is an action thriller.
