IPL Chairman and Commissioner Lalit Modi is no stranger to fame and celebrity. To add to his glowing list of awards and acknowledgments is a new title – One of the most influential Indians of the decade in the corporate world.

The honour has been bestowed on him by a news and current affairs website that has plotted the trajectories of prominent Indians in the economic sphere over the last decade.

Modi can be credited with the most revolutionary and popular innovation in cricket in recent times – the Indian Premier League. The competition, gearing up for it third edition in March, captured the imagination of the public and cricketing fraternity from its very first outing in 2008.

The second edition had to be moved to South Africa at the last minute, but that did not diminish its scale or popularity. In fact, Forbes has declared the IPL the ‘World’s hottest sports league’ in its September 2009 issue, a glorious distinction for a young competition.

The list of ‘Most influential Indians of the decade in the corporate world’ reads like the who’s who of corporate India. From Ratan Tata – the miracle car maker who’s given the world the magical budget car – Nano, to Mukesh Ambani – the Reliance Industries bigwig, and from stock brokers like Rakesh Jhunjhunwala to industrialists like Kishore Bhiyani of the Future Group of Companies, the list is a guide to the movers and shakers in the world of money, power and progress over the last 10 years.

Lalit Modi has been associated with the BCCI since 2005 (in the office of Vice President). He is the Chairman and Commissioner of both, the IPL and the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) that kicked off last October in India. CLT20 gathered a lot of buzz the world over thanks to its focus on club cricket and formula of local meets global. TV giants ESPN-Star have struck a USD 975 million deal to bag broadcast rights for the competition for ten years.

Apart from being a pioneering cricket administrator and innovator, Modi is also the President & Managing Director of the multi billion dollar conglomerate – Modi Enterprises – and Executive Director of Godfrey Philips India.

From SportsPro to Time and from Business Standard to Forbes, there is no prominent national or international publication that hasn’t honoured Modi for his path-breaking work in the field of cricket.

All the top rated news channels like NDTV and CNBC have awarded him for his remarkable tenacity, vision and ability to convert big dreams into reality.

As the IPL revs up for its third season, all eyes on Modi and his team to deliver a larger than life experience to millions of fans across the globe.

The influential Indian has exactly what it takes to propel the game one step further, bringing to life the wildest fantasies of cricket lovers everywhere. Over to IPL 3.0.
