Miss California Carrie Prejean competing in the Miss USA competition was blasted by a contest judge because she opposes gay marriage, may now have grounds for a discrimination lawsuit — against the Miss USA pageant. The controversy began when blogger Perez Hilton asked Prejean on Miss USA how she felt about same-gender marriages and if she felt all states should move toward allowing same-sex marriage. Carrie said she was raised to believe that only a man and a woman should wed, although she personally had nothing against things being otherwise. Nevertheless, her comments enraged many and might even have caused her to lose the crown, as Carrie sees it. “It did cost me my crown. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I said what I feel. I stated an opinion that was true to myself and that’s all I can do. It is a very touchy subject and I see where [Hilton] was coming from and I see the audience would’ve wanted me to be more politically correct. But I was raised in a way that you can never compromise your beliefs and your opinions for anything.” Prejean shared hours after the controversy got in the media. ” Besides setting off a firestorm of pro- and con-gay-marriage/freedom-of-speech twittering and blogging, the remark was widely believed to have cost her the crown.  She finished second to Miss North Carolina Kristen Dalton. It also prompted Hilton to later post a nasty article about her on his massively popular Web site.

The poor girl says,“The way that I answered might have been offensive… but for me, it was being biblically correct.”  Of course, she is admittedly aware that many took it personally as an offense, despite the fact that she repeatedly stressed she did not mean her comments to be offensive for anyone. She lost it because of that question. Hilton, who is gay, said he gave Prejean a zero for her answer, and that may have made the difference in the outcome. Prejean, who attends San Diego Christian College, said she saw the question as a test of her faith — a religious trial that could have her finishing in the money, if she decides to sue. I definitely stand by her in this and would be anti Hilton for making such a hate article against her.
carrie0303091Sunday’s theatrics were just the latest controversy for Miss USA, after one of last year’s winners sued the state pageant for racial discrimination. A Hispanic woman who won the Miss California USA contest filed suit last April because her crown was yanked just three days after she was proclaimed the winner. The director of the pageant said there was an accounting error, but Christina Silva alleged racial bias — and sued for $500,000 before withdrawing her case this year.

Carrie Prejean won’t sue the pageant. Judging by her Christian convictions, she will turn the other cheek. What an excellent role model for today’s young American women!
