Bollywood actress Monica Bedi,  was extradited with Abu Salem from Portugal by CBI on 11 November, was accused of procuring a forged passport from the country in 2001. Underworld don Abu Salem was arrested on 18 September, 2002 in Lisbon for travelling on fake passports to Portugal. Monica Bedi was charged under provision of the Passport Act 1967, section 417 and 420, both relating to cheating, section 471 for knowingly using forged documents and section 468 (forgery) for the purpose of cheating. Monica Bedi is said to be married to Abu Salem, an underworld don. However, she denies it. Bedi was born to Dr.Prem Kumar Bedi and Shakuntala on 18th january 1965, her parents migrated to Norway  when she was 10 months old. They run a garment store in Norway.

Monica in her short lived film career in Bollywood has acted in about a dozen films like ‘Pyaar, Ishq Aur Mohabbat’, ‘Jaanam Samjha Karo’, and ‘Jodi No.1′ before she proceeded to jail. She tasted the bitter side of her life before she could actually taste the flavor of stardom. Monica has paid the price for her past mistakes and is looking ahead for her new life ahead. In her own words “I am very excited about the new projects on hand. I am thankful to the court for removing the restriction on my movement,” ‘I’m also working on my autobiography with the help of a ghost writer. I want to clear a lot of misconceptions about my past. I also want to tell the truth in the book. I don’t want to hide anything.” Monica is very keen to improve her image and wants the world to know about her real side apart from just being gangster Abu Salem’s former girlfriend. Monica had visited the Sikh holy shrine of Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) twice to pay obeisance. She even cleaned utensils and made chapattis there as penance. Monica has strong belief in god and feels it is this faith that helped her tide over tough times in jail after being deported from Portugal along with mobster Abu Salem. The Bollywood actress is now recording a devotional music album ‘Ek Omkaar’ on chants from the Sikh holy book Guru Granth Sahib.

Going spritual
Monica participated in the Big Boss-2, a reality show on the Colors channel very recently and was a popular show. The actress, who calls herself ‘shy’ by nature, said her stint in the reality TV show ‘Big Boss’ also helped clear the air and make her presence felt in showbiz once again. She gained public support and sympathy from this reality show.

“It was my way of letting the world know I’m back and ready to work. But the main reason I took up this show was to let people know the real Monica. Because of all that I’ve gone through… I needed to let people see the real me. I got this opportunity at the right time to show the real me.” She has much more in her Kitty after her come back from the jail (hell she had gone through). She is also seen these days in a popular dance reality show, her great dancing skills are clearly visible in her dance performances.Vikram Bhatt is alsoan producing a reality based thriller for Sony titled Haddh. The story is inspired by the real life story of Monica Bedi.

A scene from her earlier films
The actress already has Lady Luck smiling on her. She has signed one film and will be working on two reality shows very soon, but she refused to give the details of the projects. Once bitten twice shy lady is very cautious about her every step and next move as she does not want to fall into controversies any more. Monica Bedi is out of her past and says “Abu’s (Salem) reactions to anything won’t affect me and they are never going to come in the way of my career my past is my past. I will never go back to it. I respect Abu and the relationship we shared, but I have left it behind. It’s been a long time now. For me it is all over and I’m ready to start life afresh,â€.

During her stint on the Reality show with Rahul Mahajan, son of late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, Rahul made romantic advances towards Monica on several occasions, but she used to walk away to avoid “unnecessary speculation in the mediaâ€. But now she appreciates “his loveâ€. “Rahul has a ‘bacha’ (child) in him, he is very patient and doesn’t get irritated quickly. I really like these qualities about him and respect his feelings for me. He is slightly mad, but not bad,†Besides, I want to work right now and re-establish myself in the industry. “I have no marriage plans for the next two-three years and whatever it is, my parents will decide my future this time. I will definitely not go against them,†she said.Monica says that her stint in “Bigg Boss†has transformed her from being “shy and reserved†to a “more talkative and confident†person.“This show has really helped me change people’s image about me and in getting work in the industry once again,â€
Monica you are an life example to all the youngsters who at some point of time of their life gets over ambitious and make use of unfair means to achieve their goals and set their carrier high. It is indeed very sad that once upon a time your film directors were blackmailed and threatened and forced to give you leading roles in their films. So my appeal to all the over ambitious people out there is please remember there is no short cut to success. The road to success is hard work, dedication and honesty. Now that Monica is following a fair and clean path to stardom we wish her all the very good luck in life and also long to see more of her on the silver screen.
