It’s no secret that part two of the Twilight Saga, ‘New Moon’, opened with a big bang last weekend. With a whopping gross earnings of $141M* opening weekend, the film doubled the opening weekend gross earnings of its predecessor in the saga, ‘Twilight’. The high-grossing success of the movie didn’t stop with opening weekend either—‘New Moon’ was the top grossing movie Thanksgiving weekend, as well, and it’s total gross income to date is $230.7M*! The movie saga, based on the book series by Stephanie Meyers, is a modern day ‘Romeo & Juliet’ love story where Romeo and Juliet are substituted with a vampire, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and a high school beauty, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). Bella, who lives with her father in Forks, Washington falls for the guy from ‘the wrong side of the tracks’— the ‘wrong side of the tracks’ being the world of immortal vampires. But we can’t help who we love, right?
In ‘New Moon’, the plot thickens, the love triangle begins, and the world on ‘the other side of the tracks’ broadens. In attempting to protect Bella, Edward does what he thinks is best, and in doing so, leaves Bella heartbroken. With Edward and his family gone from Forks, Washington, Bella’s senior year is desolate and full of heartache. Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a member of the Quileute tribe, is there to help Bella heal her wounds. As her relationship with Jacob grows, Bella is not only privy to the world of vampires, but is also introduced to the supernatural world of the Quileute tribe. With the passing of time, Bella begins to see visions of Edward appear when she’s looking into the face of danger. In knowing this, Bella does what she can to hold on to Edward and purposely puts herself into dangerous situations. To add to Bella’s self-inflicted danger, she faces a more serious threat from a past nemesis and finds herself protected by a pack of larger-than-life wolves. As the story unfolds, Bella, Edward and his sister, Alice, find themselves in a dangerous scenario where not only do the lives of the mortal and immortal collide, but the lives of the immortals collide as well. With Edward’s reappearance in her life, Bella finds herself torn between her true love, Edward, and another’s love, Jacob’s.

With its spellbinding story of passion, drama and the supernatural, not to mention the nice-looking cast (with Kristen’s beauty, Taylor’s ripped body (he added 30 pounds of muscle to play the role of Jacob for ‘New Moon’) and Robert’s chiseled good looks), the movie is worth seeing. The trio’s acting surpasses their performances in ‘Twilight’, as well, and allows for more heart-wrenching emotion and suspense for the audience.
