Oprah Gail Winfrey (born January 29, 1954 in Kosciusko, Mississippi) is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the United States, best known for her empire which spawned from a massively successful talk show. Oprah Winfrey Show- is one of  the most popular talk show on this planet and the entire credit for the  popularity of this show obviously,  goes to the one and only charismatic host of this show.  Let’s have a quick look on her struggling life and child hood. An African American woman born to humble beginnings—her unmarried teenage parents were a housemaid, Vernita Lee, and a soldier, Vernon Winfrey.

Oprah spent her childhood struggling with a strange dichotomy academic achievement and a dysfunctional home life. She lived with her grandmother until she was six, and, in that time, learned to read and write.

She then moved to Milwaukee with her mother. The two lived together in poverty. Her mother was less supportive of her growing intelligence, and she endured physical abuse by relatives. In the midst of it all, she skipped to grades and was awarded a scholarship at age 13. Soon after, Oprah’s mother shipped Oprah off to her father in Nashville. Vernon made education a priority and pushed Oprah to succeed. She became an honors student, won a full scholarship to Tennessee State University, and was crowned Miss Black Tennessee by age 18. As soon as she became a student at Tennessee State, Oprah dived into broadcast media, working at a nearby Nashville radio station. She soon moved on to television, becoming the youngest news anchor and first African-American anchor at Nashville’s WTVF.

The Early Years of stuggle Oprah’s first stint as a talk show host came after a move to Baltimore, Md., where she joined the news team at WJZ. She was quickly tapped to co-host the local show People Are Talking. This was her first step to much, larger things.

Finally The Oprah Winfrey Show–  Talent brought her on this show, known throughout the world just by her first name, is perhaps the most influential talk shows in television history. Her book club makes celebrities of authors and when she turns the spotlight on an issue, that issue makes headlines. The woman gets things done – and she does it in an entertaining and enthralling way. The show started out simple enough – a local Chicago talk program featuring a new host, Oprah, discussing issues from “how to get the man or woman of your dreams” to local community issues. Its popularity (and the fact that it was trouncing the syndicated The Phil Donahue Show, led to Oprah’s syndication in 1986 – and the rest, as they say, is history.

While waiting for music legends Cher and Tina Turner to take the stage, Andre, Oprah’s hairstylist, perfects her curls. The production crew also gets ready for the big Vegas event. The Oprah Winfrey Show has featured many celebrities over the years, but that´s only one side of it. There´s also Oprah´s eternal quest to better herself, and to make the viewers change themselves. Oprah has started several organizations: Oprah´s angel network, Oprah´s book club, and O Magazine. For a couple of years now, the show frequently ends with a “Remember your spirit” segment. The show is produced by Oprah´s own company, Harpo (which spells Oprah backwards). The Oprah Winfrey show is now entering its 20th year of production as a syndicated show. But starting in 2011, she’ll no longer be doing her show since she won’t be renewing her contract.

Coming to the Indian connection which she featured on her show. one of her host was the most talked about global  personality , the gorgeous Aishwariya Rai Bacchan. She sure knows how to keep herself in the public eye. After featuring in Cannes Madam Tussads and David Letterman’s show her next stop was The Oprah Winfrey show! The actress is the first Indian actor to feature in this widely-watched television show. She certainly seemed to have won over her hostess, as Oprah wore the sari that Ash had brought along. Oprah commented that the sari was very ‘sensual.’Excerpts from the show:

I am sure this piece of conversation will be a lot of  fun to read.

Oprah: I think you’re gorgeous. When you look at yourself, do you see that?

Ash: To me, beautiful is as beautiful does. I think that’s what speaks volumes.

Ash answered the often-asked question of her still staying with her parents, with: ”Back home, you’re a loser if you say, ‘Mom, I’m out of here.’ In India it’s more about the family, about living together, about remaining connected, and that’s probably the most beautiful special thing about it.”

Oprah: We did a show recently where we were looking at women around the world, and we were talking to French women at a cafe. They said (Americans) are all fat.

Ash: I’m from India, I wouldn’t say that because Indian people, Indian people eat well, we’re well endowed.

Oprah: Do they say we’re rude?

Ash: No, Indian people are very hospitable.

Oprah: Do they say we talk too much?

Ash: Opinionated maybe.

Oprah: Do they say we get a lot of divorces?

Ash: Ah, that could be a discussion.

Oprah: You know what, you could be a diplomat!

Three cheers for such a dynamic personality(oprah).
