Review of  Paa

Paa tells the story of a boy (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who is afflicted by Progeria, which causes him to age quickly. Abhishek Bachchan plays the role of the father. The movie explores the relationship between the father and son. It’s  an emotional father-son relationship with the ailment as the back-drop.

Auro (Amitabh Bachchan) is an intelligent, witty 13 yr old boy with an extremely rare genetic defect that causes accelerated ageing.
He suffers from a progeria like syndrome. Mentally he is 13, very normal, but physically he looks 5 times older.  a rare congenital abnormal characteristics where the person ages rapidly. In spite of his condition, Auro is a very happy boy. He lives with his mother Vidya(Vidya Balan), who is a gynaecologist.

Amol Arte (Abhishek Bachchan), is young, progressive and a full of ideals, politician. He is out to prove to the world that ‘politics’ is not a bad word. He is a man with a mission. Auro is Amol’s son.Paa is a ‘rare’ story about a father-son, son-father relationship.

Balki’s ‘Paa’ has Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan in a very different kind of a role. Unlike real life, in reel life they have exchanged their roles, the film portrays Amitabh Bachchan as Abhishek Bachchan’s son.   Amitabh Bachchan is shown to have this rare characteristics in the film. The film is more an emotional father-son relationship with the ailment as the back-drop.

From the looks of it, the film seems to be inspired in parts by Robin Williams starrer “Jack”, and the Brad Pitt starrer “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”. The Progeria part could very well give the movie a whole new direction and the apparent similarities with those Hollywood movie will be disregarded if the storyline, direction, and action are good.
Touted as Amitabh Bachchan’s most challenging (and the best?) role till date.

In such roles, even a bit of overacting will kill all the effort put into the makeup !

After all, Paa is Amitabh’s film the one and only Amitabh so it’s a must watch. For the first time a real life father son duo will be featuring in a reversal role in reel life  which will be equally exciting to watch . I have full faith and confidence on the Bacchans acting skills and they will for sure do full justice with the film titled Paa.
