MELBOURNE, Australia — Leander Paes and Cara Black won the Australian Open mixed doubles title, beating Ekaterina Makarova and Jaroslav Levinsky 7-5, 6-3. Laes led the top-seeded pair Sunday with a dominant presence at the net and quick footwork. Paes, from India, and Black, from Zimbabwe, won their second Grand Slam mixed-doubles title. They also teamed to win the 2008 U.S. Open. Paes has six Grand Slam doubles titles and five Grand Slam mixed-doubles titles, including the 2003 Australian Open with Martina Navratilova. Black also made it to the Australian Open women’s doubles final with Liezel Huber, where the pair lost in straight sets to Venus and Serena Williams. Top seeds and favourites, the 36-year-old Paes and the 30-year-old Black beat 10th seeds Ekaterina Makarova of Russia and Jaroslav Levinsky of Czechoslovakia 7-5, 6-3 in just about one and a half hour.
