Racism victim gets back: Shilpa Shetty to host ‘Big Boss’ season 2

Good news for all the admirers of Shilpa Shetty. The actress from Bollywood who managed to create a lot of fans from the controversial publicity she gained during the Big Brother show in Britain last year is back on reality TV. She got so popular in the UK after winning the Celebrity Big Brother show in 2007 that she has been in constant demand in the global entertainment industry and is hot favorite among the British as well. The 33-year-old Indian actor was the first Bollywood star to be a contestant and won the Celebrity Big Brother show after having faced racial discrimination from fellow participants, specially Jade Goody and Danielle Lloyd. The entertainment world has been chasing her since then and she takes time to decide to select the offers and shows that she is going to be a part of now. The leggy beauty has accepted the offer of the reality TV show ‘Big Boss and will be featuring in it’s second season, which is the Indian version of the UK’s reality TV show ‘Big Brother’. The second season of ‘Big Boss,’ will hit the small screen from August-end on Viacom 18’s new Hindi general entertainment channel, Colors. The channel Colors is all about ‘zazbaat ke rang’ and Big Boss is one of the unique formats that brings out all possible zazbaat in one show.
The leggy lass Shilpa Shetty will be seen hosting the show, which will run for three months, with one episode each day. Shilpa has been signed on for a whopping Rs 8 crore by the production house. Big Boss will be Shilpa’s second coming on Indian television after ‘Jhalak Dikhlaaja’, a reality dance show. She is the first celebrity to be finalized on the show while the participants are yet to be finalized.â€. The show will replace Akshay Kumar-hosted Fear Factor — Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Big Boss – Season 1 was aired on Sony Entertainment Television in 2006. Produced by Endemol India, the show had 15 participants, which included Rakhi Sawant, Ravi Kishen, Deepak Tijori, Carol Gracias, Baba Sehgal, among others. The grand finale clocked a TV viewership rating of 3.52 with ‘Rahul Roy’ winning the first season. The show had gained a good amount of publicity for Rakhi Sawant and titillated her down market career.
Big Boss was first telecast on Sony Entertainment Television in 2006 and had grown to become a popular show that delivered an average rating of 1.7 (13 weeks in the Hindi-speaking markets). So the chances of gaining popularity along with high TRPs in this season of Big Boss 2 are very high with Shilpa Shetty’s presence.
Shilpa, you have definitely proved the saying “blessing in disguise” by earning all the wise publicity from your UK reality televison show ‘Big Brother’ in 2007. I hope you are equally successful in removing the problem of racism that you faced during your days in Big Brother in the United kingdom with your good work.

Jade Goody said Shilpa Shetty “makes my skin crawlâ€, while Danielle Lloyd, a former beauty queen, called her “a dog.†Jo O’Meara, another contestant, refused to eat a chicken roasted by Shetty because she claimed it was too spicy and undercooked, prompting Shetty to burst in to tears.
‘Jackson Five’ star Jermaine Jackson has consoled Shetty by quoting his brother Michael’s hit “Man in The Mirrorâ€. “They need to look in the mirror before they can make that charge,†he told her.
