Stargazing with the most powerful man on earth- Barack Obama

Celebrities.  We love them.  We loath them.  We live vicariously through their fantasy lifestyles.  We quickly rejoice in their fashion faux pas and secretly visualize ourselves living in their sprawling mansions and sailing aboard their luxury yachts.  Why?  Why we are so mesmerized by celebrities? Â
Perhaps our fascination with the rich and famous is that they epitomize the idea that anything is possible and that we may one day, too, be living la dolce vita (the sweet life).  Julia Roberts’ epic rise to fame after “Pretty Woman†allows every woman believe she can be America’s sweetheart. James Bond’s debonair nature and adventurous lifestyle encourages every man to claim he is a secret agent.  Hannah Montana’s down-to-earth persona allows her screaming fans to imagine they, too, are a rock star, as her catchy up tempo songs suggest.Â
Today, celebrities are more accessible than ever via phone, fax, text, email and social networking.  Popular networking websites, like youtube.com, myspace.com, and facebook.com, now make it possible to personally contact VIPs, further blurring the line between celebrities and commoners. Bridging that gap is America’s new darling celebrity couple, President and First Lady, Barack and Michelle Obama, who advocated that they are of the people and for the people.  The Obamas are VIPs even to the most famous celebrities.  Hundreds of giddy notables, including Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Jay-Z, and more, participated in the most star-studded Inauguration in history.  Jason Wu, young fashion designer, skyrocketed to fame when Michelle Obama chose his dress for the Inaugural festivities.Â
Andy Warhol suggested, “in the future, everyone will be world famous for fifteen minutes,†and with reality television, now everyone has an opportunity to be famous.  “American Idolâ€, “America’s Next Top Modelâ€, and “Project Runwayâ€, allow viewers to be voyeurs.  While in the privacy of our living room, we confidently assert that we can be the next gold-record singing sensation, top model, and contemporary fashion designer.  Ah, how grand our imaginations.
Preoccupation with fame and fortune is perhaps our own desire to shine and be noticed.  President Obama suggested that the success of his campaign came from allowing us to recognize ourselves in one another. Perhaps our fascination with celebrity is simply the witnessing of ourselves in one another and ultimately wanting proof that even the grandest dreams really do come true. President Obama said it best when he witnessed that his run for presidency began with, “a belief that if we could just recognize ourselves in one another and bring everyone together – Democrats, Republicans, and Independents; Latino, Asian, and Native American; black and white, gay and straight, disabled and not – then not only would we restore hope and opportunity in places that yearned for both, but maybe, just maybe, we might perfect our union in the process.â€
Thank You President Barack, and First Lady, Michelle, for inspiring us to pursue our grandest dreams, and by recognizing ourselves in your illumination, realizing our own star power.

Obama and family look like the people next door.
Their interaction as a family is an example to us.
He is walking his talk.
