What is the story?
“Drona is the title that’s given to the lead character. Drona is completely human – he even has character flaws. In the movie, he learns to deal with his fears as well. Drona is the title given to the firstborn of every generation in this dynasty. It has been appointed here on earth by the gods themselves to guard a secret which, if found by evil forces, will spell doom for the planet and the universe,†he explains.
Vir Bhadra, the first king of this palace called Pratap Garh, was chosen as the Drona of his age and the firstborn of his dynasty, to this day, is called Drona because he guards that secret. The character in the movie is called Aditya, played by Abhishek, so it’s pretty much like the Jedi and Star Wars – you have to be born a Drona.â€
The idea, is that every person is born with a special task or destiny. Each one of us is born to do something, with certain capabilities and skills that belong only to us. You write well, some one might be good at singing and dancing, some people are born sports person and I might direct well and so on there are various skills that God has given us all. This is a fictionalized, larger than life way of telling a coming-of-age tale.
It’s about how this character discovers what he is destined to become and what his superhuman powers are. The outfit in the movie is the ancestral outfit that he dons – that is what a Drona wears when he goes to war. He’s human, and that’s the whole point – there’s a representative of the human race who’s appointed by the gods to protect the secret.â€
Coming to the Review and some amazing facts about Drona -
The movie is directed by a very renowned and successful director Goldie Behl. The leading performers in the film are Abhishek Bachan who is playing the character of DRONA . Priyanka is also playing a very challenging role as she is a Sikhni body guard of Drona. It’s a first of its kind since we’ve never had the leading lady ‘protecting’ the hero… unless we remember Hema-ji in those hunter walli movies like ‘Jyoti’ in which she looked after the hero.
Surprisingly and interestingly the the initial approval for this grand idea came from a small source – Goldie and Abhishek’s nephews. Abhishek and Goldie first narrated the story to all the kids in the family and only after the kids gave an okay the director Goldie decided to go ahead with the movie. “Goldie must treat this small kids for their efforts , creativity and little support provided by them to him while making the film.”
Till now only positive response has been heard about this big budget film. Fortunately, there’s no sameness in the movie, it’s been shot in exotic locations in Rajasthan – Kuchaman fort, Bikaner and Sambar – and at various locations in Namibia. “In fact, there’s one location that’s never been seen before – where the desert and the ocean meets. The sets of the Drona are huge , grand and massive. Drona reminds me some where  of a Holly wood thriller Star Wars.
Unfortunately, controversies and difficulties just don’t seem to leave director Goldie Behl, especially while making this film Drona. A couple of days ago, shooting had to be stopped when some sets were damaged due to thunderstorms. Earlier, the Animal Welfare Board of India had raised objections over the use of horses in the movie without taking prior permission and now shooting in a border area, controversies just don’t seem to leave director Goldie Behl, who has been camping in Rajasthan’s Bikaner town to shoot his Abhishek Bachchan starrer “Dronaâ€.
What ever said and done the film is worth watching as it ‘s a stress buster and some thrill to watch and some justice to the makers of the film.
