In 2018 the famous Day of Crisis has left indelible traces. The network Skynet in turn has developed a large army against mankind, leading the world into extermination through nuclear holocaust with billions of victims. But the war between machines and the growing resistance is raging with each side planning the final attack. While Skynet has strengthened continuously, the resistors intercepted a signal which their leadership considers as a major advantage to end the war. Hiearchy rising John Connor (Christian Bale), the one who carries on his shoulders the expectations of those who consider him as future leader of the Resistance, and the one who will face a critical dilemma that threatens to overturn everything any possible outcome about the war. Should he trust Markus Wright (Sam Worthington)? The man who mysteriously appeared out of nowhere, the man whose last memory of death sentence is the only clue of his identity. Markus Wright (Sam Worthington) is likely to decide the future of humanity.
After the fourth film of the legendary sequel ‘Terminator’, we can finally forget #3. It is because after James Cameron’s «Terminator 1» and «Terminator 2: Judgment Day» the «Rise Of The Machines» Mostow has been poor, aging, pathetic and irrelevant as the T-800 of Schwarzenegger in the year 2003.
Of course, it may require too much goodwill to place «Terminator Salvation» at the same podium with the first two films, but there are some elements which let us consider it as a fair sequel of the previous two films which can be recognized in the film. The film seems to disengage from the indelible presence of Arnold Schwarzenegger imposed by Cameron’s earlier films, clearly setting a new ‘face’ in the foreground. The rapidly rising, sharp and hypocritical Christian Bale was for sure the character who could erase Arnold’s presence with a characteristic ease.
Also, there is an attempt being made to commit a partially restrained connection through various references to previous parts of history (always excluding ’3 ‘) in order to maintain the public favorite, familiar universe of the series. Thus, there are several new characters along with the two familiar, John Connor and his father, Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin).
On Terminator Salvation, the blockbuster (futuristic-eschatological) adventure, the outcome proved attractive, surpassing its competitors release … Transformers. Its masterful scenes and special effects project the uprising adrenaline enviroment, the threatening world is well staged, ending without any unnecessary farewell pretexts for the upcoming sequel (if there might be any). Though the film manages to standalone as a product with ease, it remains clearly subordinate to the pioneering films of Cameron. On the one hand, there appears an irreplaceable and obvious lack of a flag – female character like the one of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor. On the other hand, the fear of going permanently below, leads to scenario solutions such as giving up without a fight unlike the superiority of’ T-2 ‘(eg the finale eschatology or take loans from the Matrix).
Therefore, the ultimate challenge for a superior Terminator sequel, unfortunately was postponed until at least next year. Forcing us to wonder about the upcoming sequel.. Watch the official movie trailer:
