What is the power of a dream? Are the words disappointment, failure, heartache, and rejection synonymous with success? What about determination, faith, hard work, and perseverance? The succulent fruits of success and recognition are years, sometimes decades, in the making. The 2009 Grammy Awards were a cornucopia of celebrities, all of whom have conquered hardship along their journey to the top. Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brothers, and Katie Perry all basked in Grammys golden glow, though all have encountered their share of potholes along the golden brick road.
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, is listed among Time magazines 100 Most Influential People in the World, and Forbes magazines number thirty-five on the The Celebrity 100 list, earning over US $25 million in 2008. Cyrus was bitten by the acting bug at an early age, after landing parts in Doc and Big Fish and was anxious to sink her teeth into a bigger role. Cyrus auditioned for Hannah Montana, though the show decided to take another direction and continued to audition other girls for almost a year. Cyrus, obviously disappointed and disheartened by the decision, prepared to move on to other projects. Cyruss charm and charisma proved to be irreplaceable as Hannah Montana failed to find another actress who suited the part the way Miley did. Cyrus went on to become a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award nominated American singer, songwriter, and actress with both albums, Meet Miley Cyrus and Breakout, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200.
Taylor Alison Swift was the biggest selling artist in America in 2008, selling over four million albums. Swift began her career when, as a young teen, she visited the most prominent recording studios on Music Row in Nashville, declaring herself the next big country sensation. The studios smiled and patted the cute blonde gal on the head, sending her on her way.
Swift, at age fourteen, convinced her family to move to Nashville and took an after school job writing songs while she was still in high school. Swift, in a recent interview with Katie Couric, credits her lack of popularity in high school as contributing to her success in the music business. Her big break came after years of songwriting, when Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records spotted Swift while performing at the Bluebird Caf. Taylor Swift, Swifts first album, certified three times multi-platinum by the RIAA, produced five hit singles on the Billboard Hot Country Song Charts. Swifts second album, Fearless, went on to be the first album by a female country artist to log eight weeks at number one on The Billboard 200. The New York Times credits Swift as “one of pop’s finest songwriters, countrys foremost pragmatist and more in touch with her inner life than most adults”.
The Jonas Brothers, released three albums: It’s About Time, Jonas Brothers, and A Little Bit Longer went from paupers to princes in a relatively short time, though they, too, faced challenges. Originally, Nick Jonas was the only Jonas being wooed by record companies, and he originally signed to Columbia Records. Kevin and Joe Jonas had contributed songs on the album Nicholas Jonas. The boys were disappointed when Steve Greenberg, Columbia Records new president, pulled the album in 2005; however, Steve liked the boys sound and decided to sign the three as an act. The Jonas Brothers went on to star in the Disney Channels’ movie Camp Rock and to be nominated for Best New Artist award at the 51st Grammy Awards. to be contd……

Hi Ragini
you are a very good writer, I enjoyed the two Stardom columns and the Hollywood Romance. It’s hard to believe someone would consider Heidi Klum as fat, what happens to curvy beautiful women? I think that is the sexiest part of being a woman!
We’ll talk more later.
Your friend,
Cindy
