Why celebrities matter ?

I don’t know about you, but it’s sometimes easy to forget why celebrities really matter, especially after looking at countless tabloid magazines, endlessly showing who’s dating who and who’s wearing what. We forget the real point about being a celebrity is about the talent they bring to the world, rather then the buzz they create or the soap opera-esque lives they tend to live. But every once in a while you’ll come across a touching story which reinstitutes your faith in why some celebs/artists can be so important for us culturally, and it has very little, if anything to do with the latest designers they wear, how thin they are or who they sleep with.

Glenn Losack, is a perfect example of this point. His youth was void of adult role models. As a creative child, he needed to fill this gap with mentors who could stimulate his creative energy, he needed talented and creative people to admire and look up to. Who did the then young, Glenn Losack choose, the 60’s iconic British group, The Beatles. Paul McCartney and John Lennon were the young Glenn’s heroes. And to this day, he still looks to them for artistic inspiration.

Glenn didn’t join a world renowned band, but he did become a physician who later became an internationally acclaimed and award winning photographer and musician. After writing, Yoko Ono a touching letter about what her husband meant to him, she became a fan of his work and included one of his now iconic photos, renamed Yoko, after Yoko Ono, to be in her private collection. At Yoko’s recent album party in New York City, Glenn and Sean Lennon took a picture together, to celebrate John Lennon’s life, Yoko’s new album and to honor what a celebrity can do to inspire a young boy now turn man’s tremendous talent and life direction. Here’s an article written about the talented, Glenn Losack, his love of India and his current artistic pursuits. It’s a nice reminder about the positive impact celebrities/ talented artists can have on the people who consider them not only fans, but inspirations to live a more fulfilling live.
